New York, NY – This month, thousands of people from different parts of the world are flying in to congregate at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), which will be held from September 10-30. The theme is Leaving No One Behind: Acting Together for the Advancement of Peace, Sustainable Development, and Human Dignity for Present and Future Generations.The global summit is a golden opportunity for business and private sector professionals to connect with groundbreaking ideas and influential leaders.

We’ve curated a comprehensive guide to the pan-African highlights at UNGA 2024, designed to help Africans make informed choices about which sessions and engagements to prioritize. From high-impact policy discussions to exclusive networking opportunities, we’ll spotlight 10 must-attend events that unlock new partnerships and insights. 

  1. The 2024 Concordia Annual Summit will focus on global issues such as geopolitical risks, environmental sustainability, financial inclusion, and public health. The event encourages collaboration between public and private sectors to navigate complex global issues, with programming themes ranging from democracy and security to innovative technology and youth advocacy. It is held from September 23-25.
  1. The 2024 Summit of the Future features world leaders uniting to address barriers to cooperation. The event aims to rebuild trust and adopt a “Pact for the Future” including a Global Digital Compact and a Declaration on Future Generations. It is held from September 20-23.
  1. Unstoppable Africa 2024 is hosted by the Global Africa Business Initiative and will be held from September 25-26. The event focuses on advancing access to energy, boosting trade, and empowering Africa’s youth and creative industries.
  1. The Africa Breakfast Conversations (ABC) 2024 is an invite-only event held on September 27, 2024, and organized by communications firms, Allison and BHM. The event promises to bring together influential leaders to discuss Africa’s global role and its opportunities at the World Trade Center. 
  1. Forging The Future: Unveiling Innovative Solutions For Work, Sustainability And The Green Economy,” organized by Vivacity Development, will be held on September 26 at the Consulate General of Nigeria, New York. The event will explore subjects such as the future of work, sustainability, and the green economy.
  1. Destination 2030 Nigeria is an exclusive event hosted by the Nigerian Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy.  It will gather policymakers, creators, and global stakeholders to discuss Nigeria’s cultural and developmental vision for 2030. Attendees must request an invitation.
  1. The Global Business Leaders Breakfast hosted by Makutano will be held on September 26, at Aquavit Restaurant. It will bring together government officials, investors, and entrepreneurs to explore investment opportunities in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Africa. The event will also celebrate Makutano’s 10th anniversary and preview the upcoming “Mak10 The New Deal” event in Kinshasa.
  1. The Bridge, part of Next Narrative Africa, is a concert celebrating the African diaspora. It will be held at Harlem’s Apollo Theater and feature musical performances from African artists such as Adekunle Gold, Patoranking, Neuza, etc. It will also feature appearances by leaders in government, business, and entertainment.
  1. FORWARD is a one-day networking event organized by the Beyond Borders Network in partnership with the NYU African Graduate Students Association (AGSA) and Africa Tech NYC. The event is themed “Our Stories, Our Platforms.” It’s currently fully booked, but you can join the waitlist.
  1. Catch Your Breath Lounge at UNGA is organized by the African Women in Technology (AWIT) and Impact Hub as a unique networking experience to foster meaningful connections, share ideas, and simply unwind. Guests can RSVP on or before September 25 to access a relaxed, no-pressure environment to engage with like-minded individuals passionate about innovation, sustainability, and global impact.
